About Us

Nairobi Community Media House is a Kenyan based social media enterprise that works with young reporters from slums of Nairobi. The organization’s mission is to empower young reporters to be the voice of the community, to tackle the social challenges that face the slums and in the process creating employment and encouraging development that will improve the living standards in the informal settlements.

Since 2007, Nairobi Community Media House NCMH , has been giving the art of puppetry a test of innovation and has recieved great positive feedback with its high performing edutainment method. Edutainment stands for combined educational and entertainment production. It educates by enhancement of the social, moral, academic, environmental, and spiritual values to cater for these special needs of the kids, this gives our programs and activities wide coverage of the social issues.
African Slum Journal is a social media initiative that aims at getting very deep into the slums issues and seeking their solutions and their appropriate preconditions. The slum areas exhibits high vulnarabilty to social challenges that the media initiative aims to bring to the light for debate and seek for solutions. This exercise involves recruitment of the youths from these areas, a move that also solves the great problem of unemployment in these areas and develop good relationship between the residents and the media initiatve. It involves training the youths in becoming professionals in the field of media and journalism,they are then trained to make captivating stories and how to go about reporting plus other media and journalism activities. This results into a series of video reports of a host of issues that surrounds the slum life and are webcasted on the African Slum Journal portal
